50 Cent Piece
- Kennedy Half Dollars
The Kennedy Half Dollar is a fifty-cent US coin struck in memory of President John F. Kennedy, assassinated in 1963. It was minted from 1964 through 1970. The 1964 Kennedy Half Dollars were struck with 90% silver and 10% copper with a silver weight of 0.36169 troy ounces. Due to rises in bullion prices, the silver content was reduced to 40% from 1965 onward, equivalent to 0.1479 troy ounces.
The obverse features a profile of JFK while the reverse side sports a bald eagle clutching olive branches. The designs are the work of Gilroy Roberts and Frank Gasparro.
